Common Window Tinting Questions
Why 3M window film?
3M invented window film in 1966 and holds 100+ patents. 3M films are non-metalized (no signal interference), color-stable, and backed by a nationwide manufacturer's warranty.
What's the difference between 3M Ceramic IR, Color Stable, and Obsidian?
Ceramic IR (up to 95% IR rejection, premium nano-ceramic, top tier); Color Stable (up to 57% IR rejection, nano-carbon, non-purpling, mid tier); Obsidian (up to 41% IR rejection, entry-level, lifetime warranty). Our automotive lineup is exactly these three tiers.
How long does installation take?
Full vehicle: 2–4 hours. Front two doors: 45-60 minutes. Residential/commercial: varies by scope; we provide an estimate.
How long until my tint is fully cured?
Automotive films take 3-5 days on average to cure, weather dependent. Residential and Commercial take 30-60 days on average to cure, film dependent.
Can window film be removed?
Yes, professionally. We do not recommend DIY removal.
Will film damage my windows?
No, when professionally installed by a 3M Authorized Dealer.
How do I clean tinted windows?
After the film has fully cured, use ammonia-free cleaner and a soft microfiber cloth. No abrasives.
Will 3M film interfere with my GPS, cell phone, or satellite radio?
No. 3M's premium films (Ceramic IR, Prestige) are non-metalized and signal-safe.
Can I install window film myself?
No. Professional installation by a 3M Authorized Dealer is required to maintain the manufacturer's warranty.
What is the warranty?
Automotive: nationwide manufacturer's lifetime warranty (covers bubbling, peeling, cracking, delamination, color change), honored at any 3M Authorized Dealer nationwide. Residential: lifetime (as long as you own your home). Commercial: 5–15 years depending on the film. See our warranty page for details.
Is the warranty transferable?
Some 3M warranties are transferable; ask us for details specific to your film.
What are Colorado's window tint laws?
Colorado allows 27% VLT on front-side windows for passenger vehicles.
Does window film help with Colorado's high altitude?
Yes. At Colorado's altitude, UV intensity is ~25% higher than at sea level. 3M film blocks up to 99.9% of UV rays, protecting interiors and skin.
Does residential window film really save energy?
Yes. 3M window film can reduce cooling costs and often pays for itself in energy savings within ~3 years on average. Some films qualify for federal energy-efficiency tax credits under Section 25C.
